Alcobaça Monastery

A Cistercian monastery founded in 1153 by Portugal's first king, its church the largest in the country and among the earliest Gothic buildings on Portuguese soil — famed for the elaborately carved Gothic tombs of King Pedro I and his murdered mistress Inês de Castro.
